I usually only talk poorly of what the Coronavirus has done to society but this is one time where I am thankful things are the way they are now because thanks to the lockdown that hit the UK last April, Dougal was able to find some time to begin recording music. Even though Dougal is new to platforms like SoundCloud, you can tell his sound is well mixed and mastered featuring extravagant composition. I discovered this is mostly all second nature to the producer as he has been working and jamming with other musicians for a very long time now. The talented producer has a lot going for him currently at this rate; especially since the man loves a multitude of genres including house, deep house, chill, tropical and inspiring. This wide range will greatly effect his production capabilities in the most positive of ways. In addition, Dougal has many influencers ranging from Pink Floyd to the Beatles, to Ben Böhmer via AC DC, all great artists that I’m sure will bleed into his work as time goes on. The unit of a DJ has since continued creating and is about to release ‘Gravity’ on April 16th, only two days away! This banger will also be featured by the Affinity Ascension network so make sure to stay tuned in! Not too far off in the distance Dougal will be releasing another brand new tune called ‘Coming up for Air’, which is nearly finished & a lot more along the lines of ‘Tout Droit’. We couldn’t be more excited for what lies on the horizon, but for now we will sit back patiently and continue listening to ‘Tout Droit (Isolation Five)’ to satiate our need for chill vibes.
A little bit about -Tout Droit (Isolation Five)-
Tout Droit (Isolation Five) basically came from a really simple riff Dougal Matthews was messing about with on the piano and follows a very basic and well-trodden chord structure. “Once I’d connected the riff on the piano, I took it into Logic and then wrote the rest as I went. It took around two weeks here & there, when time allowed and was released back in June 2020. In terms of the sound, I wanted to create something chilled and afterparty like, something that you could soundtrack a beautiful sunrise or sunset, experienced on a tropical beach, or conjure up the aftermath of an epic night with a perfect morning. The gentle familiarity of the theme riff and the layering of the strings hopefully aid its gentle rise and fall, akin to waves lapping upon the shore!” -Dougal Matthews
